Nowadays, photography is ubiquitous as personal cell phones. Anybody can take pictures and instantly share it to the world. Many believe that taking pictures is just photography and anybody can do it. And, to a certain extent, they are correct. Modern photography is simply a push of a button or is it?
We do cooperatively marvel at the frozen instants captured by wedding, sports, model and wildlife photographers. And if taking pictures was that simple, wouldn’t we be tired by the plethora of “stunning” instants everybody would be capturing? I realize that is a rhetorical question, but it is illustrative just the same. Some people just have the knack, talent, and perseverance to seize these moments and to share them with the rest of us.
If we actually think about it, product photography is about producing a moment a subtle yet significant difference. In numerous ways, it is in complete contradiction to the movement of photography and most of the marriage, portrait, and sports photographers are doing. Therefore how do we go about selecting a good product photographer?
Qualities of Good Product Photographer
Here are a few attributes that are seen in all decent product photographers:
Understands Standard Business Exercises
Writes clear, brief proposals understand billing and payment terms and clearly describes the proposed work, standard conditions and the logistics in accomplishing the end goal.
Competent
Fashion, food, glass, jewelry, lifestyle, intangible objects, etc. are all kinds of product photography. Some photographers only shoot only a few specific objectives but as a photographer, it's hard to be proficient in every one of them. Hire someone who is capable of photographing your particular product.
Creative Mind
Every photographer has their strength. Some are good with portraits, some with buildings or nature. One thing that you need to consider is the ability of the photographer to go beyond and create something that is truly special.
Clear communicator
Do you know what to anticipate or are you at all times trying to nail them down on something? A good product photographer communicates exactly what needs to be done and in return listen to his clients.
That’s a relatively short list, and for the most part, it is not very specifix but the answers to those questions must give you clear direction on whom to begin working with. Clearly you would want to consider any photographer you select on those attributes.
